The importance of healthy fats
Fats were known for years as being bad for the body. Eating fat was supposed to make you fat and clog your veins. Fortunately, this idea is becoming less and less common, and more and more people know that healthy fats are necessary for good health.
Fat consists of saturated and unsaturated fat. In food, you will often find both types of fat, but the emphasis should be on both mono- and polyunsaturated fats. These have the most proven health effects on the body from studies. This includes the absorption of certain vitamins, a positive effect on the cholesterol level¹ and a positive effect on the heart².
What are good fats found in?
There are many products that contain good fats, but it turns out that many people do not yet eat enough of them. Examples of products with healthy fats include salmon, fish oil, almonds, avocado, coconut and much more. Because fats contain many calories, it may be wise to supplement your healthy fats with food supplements. XXL Nutrition offers a broad range of healthy foods such as nuts, but also supplements such as Omega-3 fish oil capsules.
Essential: Omega 3 fish oil
Omega 3 fish oil deserves a special mention. Omega 3 fatty acids, and more specifically the fatty acids eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), are two of the healthiest fats that you can consume. An enormous amount of scientific research has been conducted into omega 3, and new benefits for both sport and health are discovered every year. Omega 3 is mainly found in fatty fish such as salmon or mackerel, but also to a lesser extent in omega 3 enriched eggs, chia seed, linseed and walnuts. Do you eat little of these products? Then an omega 3 supplement is recommended.
How much Omega-3 per day?
Any amount of omega 3 is better than nothing, especially since most people do not get any omega 3 every day. To maximize the benefits of omega 3, we recommend taking at least 1 gram of omega 3 (combined EPA and DHA) per day. This can be achieved especially easily with extra-high dose omega 3 capsules.
