O.R.S. is short for Oral Rehydration Salts, or Oral Rehydration Solution. Originally it was mainly used for moisture loss / dehydration due to diarrhea, for example, but it has also proved to be a very effective formula for (endurance) athletes. Due to the special hypotonic formula, moisture is absorbed by your cells as effectively as possible to replenish the body fluids. Due to its effectiveness, O.R.S. is even included in the World Health Organization (WHO) model list of essential medicines.

What is an Oral Rehydration Solution?

O.R.S. is a specific mix of carbohydrates (dextrose) and salts (a combination of sodium and potassium). This mix in the right proportion creates a so-called hypotonic drink with a low osmolality of 220 mmol / kg. In simple language this means that moisture is absorbed more easily than with an isotonic drink, for example. This is exactly what you are looking for when your body has become dehydrated due to prolonged (endurance) training, high ambient temperatures or simply drinking too little.

Carbohydrate electrolyte solutions increase water absorption during physical activity and promote endurance in endurance sports.

Usage and dosage

Each 15 gram dose of O.R.S. contains no less than 9 grams of carbohydrates and 2 grams of salt. This makes O.R.S. perfect to take during or around long, intensive (endurance) training. Also if you spend a long time in high ambient temperatures or have not been able to drink enough, O.R.S. a good addition. Obviously O.R.S. not a substitute for adequate hydration throughout the day.

Dissolve 15 gram in at least 500 ml drink of your choice.

Unfortunately, we are only allowed to give limited information about supplements, due to strict European regulations. Only approved claims which are mentioned in the EU database are allowed to be mentioned.
